Atascadero restaurant recommendation- Porsche content!
Hi
ok- so I am helping organize the Targa California for 2009, now that the iron bottom rally is gone. A LOT of porsches enter now and its a real ball to enjoy the roads and camaraderie of like minded enthusiasts We do one group breakfast together (at least we hope to) on a Saturday am. As one of the roads home take us from Paso Robles south by Atascadero, we need a good place to dine ,for about 100-200 people (big range, but i don't know what the response will be till a week before this free event ) We thought about Tina's in Santa Margarita BUT locals will shun her place if we take the whole thing over for the b-fast (serious!) Zo.... can you mid california people make some cool suggestions? Thanks a ton

Are you going down 101? Atascadero and Paso are small towns. There is an In-N-Out Burger on 101 at Traffic Center or something like that in Atascadero. There is Madonna Inn in San Luis Obispo. In fact, there are a lot more places to eat in SLO, such as Tahoe Joes. Further down 101 there is Pismo Beach and Grover Beach, McClintock's Steakhouse etc. If you stop in downtown SLO, it'll take much longer to serve everyone and to find parking but the atmosphere is much nicer. I like Mo's Barbecue or there is a fusion restaurant across from Starbuck's there. You can find the most number of places in and around Pismo Beach, and there are the shopping outlets too....

oops, sorry I (obviously) didn't see the "breakfast" part. I guess I thought that people who were travelling would be eating later in the day. Guess I'll just keep my thoughts to mysef then.

I'm still waiting for you to organize the Targa Hollywood. Mulholland to PCH (taking dirt Mul, too), then down to Sunset, all the way back to Laurel Canyon, and back up the hill to start the next lap. Repeat for 500/1000 km/miles (or some other endurance type distance like that).

Creston just east (5 min) of Atascadaro.
Just a mile south of the 41 on the 229. The longhorn chute, best bbq and prices, ($7 range) it's where the locals go. Address: 6350 Webster Rd, Creston, CA 93432 Phone: (805) 237-1259 http://www.tripadvisor.com/Restaurant_Review-g32266-d649553-Reviews-Loading_Chute-Creston_California.html Went there last Saturday, can seat many inside and also has super large lawn area for outdoor meetings. We enjoyed it. ![]() Our friends the Jevecs run the Cider creak bakerey just off the 46 and Vineyard rd (between Cambria and Paso). They heard we were going to the Carlton in Atascadaro and steered us to the Longhorn chute instead. 41 east of the 229 is a fun road too. http://www.yelp.com/biz/cider-creek-templeton Call the bakery and ask for Ken Jevec, he's in the food biz and knows the area very well. The locals don't recommend the Carlton. Last edited by ted; 05-09-2008 at 10:46 PM.. |

Thanks for the suggestions guys.
Here is some background on the "Targa California '09" : Inspired by the now defunct No Frills Iron Bottom Motoring Tour, the Targa California is open to all pre 1976 vehicles to partake in a 3 day back roads journey of some of California's best. Leaving the Rose Bowl in Pasadena at 7:30 am promptly on the designated Thursday (tba) in April, the TC entrants will enjoy the fun and camaraderie of other car enthusiasts , scenic roads that are seldom seen by the majority of people. This is a non competitive tour, where personal responsibility and common sense will prevail. No trophies, no entry fee (FREE !) , just a set of directions, you friends, and tons of great driving. Over 30 Porsches participated in the last NFIMBT, amongst 130 cars of all makes and types. And I think its safe to say that all had a great time. Now, being a free event , and these are public roads.... who am I to check whether your "76 and older" 911 is actually an 89? Looks like the same car to me....Note that the majority of driving on the 1000 mile 3 day event is in the first couple of days, during the week, when there is much less traffic BREAKFAST: hmmm.... I did not know that the Creston place might be open to a large group. Nice suggestion. Maybe they can offer a buffet menu just for us that day. It sits right on one of the all time awesome roads (albeit a bit short, but what a heck of a road !!!) EVER paved. 229 )Thanks to all

Why pre 1976? What makes 1976 the magic yr ? Just a question.

Pre 76 is considered as the end of the era of vintage sports and other cars. From there on the cars grew laded down with cup holders, a/c, and other sundries that were not germaine to the art of driving.
Of course our P cars kept the spirit of driving alive all along
