Headers for Race Muffler
Hi, I have B&B Race Muffler 1 3/4 Inch (See Image), for my 911 3.2 and I'm looking for a pair of Headers with or without heat to fit this muffler.
I have contacted B&B and they recommended these headers (See Image). I was going to go with these but, a few people have said the build quality is not very good. Anybody have any suggestions or opinions-Good or Bad all welcome.http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1211197977.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1211198067.jpg Porsche 911 Carrera 3.2 1985 Euro Spec Steve Wong 87 EURO/RON95 Performance Chip Air-box Mod with BMC Air-Filter. |
I recently installed Fabspeed stainless headers. They have equal length tubes with smooth bends and no welds, and merge type collectors for excellent flow. Fit and workmanship is excellent, and exceeds B&B. I believe S-Car-Go makes a nice set of headers with similar features. They offer a USA made version which is pretty expensive, as well as a China made duplicate. Quiet Horsepower makes a really beautiful set of headers, but lots of $. There are probably others, but these seem to be the most well known for higher end, well engineered pieces. There are less expensive brands, such as OBX (China knock off of European Racing Headers) and of course ERH. I am not convinced their collector design makes good sense, so I went with Fabspeed and their quite sophisticated collector type.

The issue w/ B&B mufflers is their proprietary inlet spacing. You almost have to use B&B headers. The quality of the headers is fine, I have had a set on my C3 for many years and 3 different engines, they are still fine.
B&B mufflers on the other hand have a bad rep. That sais I have never seen a B&B muffler that looked like the one pictured above. W/O a doubt the Fabspeed or S-Car-go headers are superior but they are also far more expensive and again muffler inlet spacing will be an issue. |
Bill is correct, particularly about the proprietary spacing of the header exits (I didn't think to mention that) on all three of the systems mentioned: B&B, Fabspeed and S-Car-Go. It wasn't an issue on my track car, as I have small inline mufflers exiting straight out the rear.
Considering Bill's positive experience with B&B headers and the spacing issue, it seems like that is the way to go for your situation. |
must be someone in Europe making these things - if you find it then you could avoid shipping to Amsterdam

I had the same problems with my Fabspeed setup.
I'm now going to remove the system and install SSI's with M&K muffler. |
Hi Gavin, Thats what I did. I sold my B&B Muffler and Bought SSI's with a 2 into 1 M&K. I am very pleased with not only the sound but also of the performance at has given. First time I gunned it it wheeled spinned in second never got that before.

As a former owner of multiple B&B mufflers, I'll offer my suggestion that the best to place mount one of their pieces is in the nearest garbage can. Their headers are fine -- I haven't had any problems at all with them. But the stainless steel mufflers resonate badly, and vibrate themselves to pieces. Cracks, separation, lots of headaches.
I replaced mine with a Flowmaster muffler that cost 1/10th of the B&B. I've been very happy with the Flowmaster. |
