Cost to install Pre- '74 Heat Exchangers and Dansk Exhaust

My porsche mechanic told me it would take about 10 hours of labor ($880) to do this conversion for my '82 911SC.

I have 2 questions:

1. Is 10 hours a fair estimate?

2. Can I take this somewhere else to get it done? A muffler shop for example or can a non-porsche mechanic tackle this one if I bought all the parts and hardware?

Thanks

How does it depends sound?

I can't speak for prices as I have yet to pay anyone to work on my car. Only because it hasn't ever been running in my possesion

If everything goes as planned and the nuts come off easily, then I would think that is an expensive estimate.

On the other hand, if the bolts are all rusted on and heat cycled frozen onto the studs and one (or more0 of the studs breaks then $880 might not seem too bad.

There isn't anything too complicated going on with the removal and reinstallation. If the bolts are all in good easy to remove condition it shouldn't take even an average mechanic anything but a couple hours to complete. Even I, a remedial mechanic at best, feel like I could get this job done in 10 hours. No way I'd pay me $88 an hour to work on a car.

Where are you located?

I'm sure you know but this could easily take you out of emissions legality depending on local law.

I would think that a non-porsche specific mechanic should be able to handle this job. I'd go with someone I had a reputation with and knew did quality work. I would trust my daily driver mechanic to do this job, but I have used him for years and know he does a good job.
