normal operating temps?? external oil cooler

I was wondering what the normal operating temps for a CIS injected 1974 2.7 engine should be?
Mine runs about 215 on the gauge in 75 degree weather.
There is no external oil cooler and I have been contemplating installing one.
I would be grateful for any suggestions in this area as well. The car is a 1974 carrera
that has the stock front valance for the 74 carreras.
Thanks
Mike

I can't speak for a Carrera, but my 75 S would run a bit less than that on freeway runs at the same ambient temperature--right around 210 on the gauge. I installed a 28 row brass front fender cooler and the temps, under the same conditions, never exceed 180-185. I would say with the 2.7, keep it as cool as possible and install a carrera style cooler with fan. Your car will love you for it.

normal oil temps

it rises about a needle width in hot deserts. Then if I go over 80mph it'll rise further.

uses fender cooler

Hmm,..So a brass 28 tube cooler, is possibly better than a carrera cooler ???

if I lived in a desert like Az I'd have a front oil cooler or 2 fender coolers.

that's just me. Az pelicanheads might have a different opinion.
