Parking light contact?

While chasing an electrical short in the left rear parking light (only?) I am a bit perplexed about what the PARKING LIGHT CONTACT is? It is shown on the exterior lights diagram??? Is that a devise, connector or ???

I have found grey wires with black stripe melted between the fuse block and the light switch but still looking for the source of the short

Only a guess, but that may be the contact in the turn indicator stalk, on the steering column--it turns on the parking light for a particular side, only when the ignition is off.

That is exactly what it is. Many European cars have this feature. It is provided for parking on narrow city streets as are typically found in Europe.

Thanks gents! You are spot on! I have used that feature when parking on narrow streets. Now to continue the chase to find the source of the short.

Just another idea, have you done any work on any of the lights, I replaced a tail light body and the weight of the unit while hanging there pulled one of the spade connector contacts upward so when I reinstalled the back plate it ended up touching the metal body and causing the short. Just some thing to think about as I chased it for days before I realized what an idiot I was for not checking there first.
