Fuel system question

I have been searching but can not seem to find what i am looking for...Inside the passenger rear wheel well there is a canister with two fuel lines attached. I am in the process of replacing all of the fuel lines, just wondering what this canister is...?
Expansion and evaporation are up front...so this is....?
Seems to have taken a beating from tire "sling" exposure, rust, crud, etc...
Help appreciated

Charcoal canister used to hold the fuel vapour until the car is running, IMHO keep it, is good for the car, you and the environment.

Thanks! I pulled it out and cleaned it up, hoses, clamps, etc. Amazing how much crud is pinned in so many areas...

if the hoses are hard & brown then they are due to be replaced with fuel vapor rated hose

search on emissions + [charcoal .or. canister] for much more info

Tim, that is vac hose, not fuel hose. It is much cheaper than fuel hose and available locally.

I replaced all of the fuel hose and a fair amount of vacuum and vapor and w/washer hoses.
After pulling the canister in the rear and the overflow / washer resevoir up front, i probably dropped 2 pounds of dirt and crud that had built up over the years. I just kept replacing any hose i encountered...most were ok, but there were some dry and cracked lines that were long overdue.

Thanks for all of the help!
