I want to add a right mirror 911S
Where is the best source for a used or new right mirror?
|
What year car are you looking for?
|
Ebay, usually a couple. Used part (wrecking) yards.
SC mirrors are the same, I think, and most (all?) of them had a right side mirror. |
Don't buy a reproduction Durant if you have early round mirrors. You'll be very disappointed as it won't turn enough for you to see back. Used early round mirrors for the right side came on British delivery cars. They are extremely rare. If you have flag mirrors, you are in luck. Anywhere from salvage yards to right here on Pelican. Later than '72, they were painted and are common to find used.

Mirror mounting location........
Rpmoore2,
Just be aware that the location of the mounting holes for the passenger side mirror differs from the driverside. The PS mirror is located more towards the rear compared to the other mirror. Just a reminder. Tony |
Quote:
The access holes in the right side door on early cars are there for right hand drive models, not for secondary mirror, mount as Tony describes. Also the silver rectangular miirors '72-'73 and '74-'75 are stainless with chrome base. David |
Assuming you're talking about a Flag Mirror (post '76).......
You'll need both a RH mirror AND the rectangular backing plate that is pop riveted from the inside of the door. Both can be found at Porsche dismantling yards of which there are several good ones. PM me for a recommendation if you don't have any near. There are several good threads on this - search "flag mirror" - one that includes the template for drilling the holes. You can use the backing plate as a template but as noted, the whole assy is much farther toward the front of the car than the LH mirror. Unless you're really lucky on the color choice, the next trick is disassembling, painting and reassembling your mirror without sctarching the paint. Ron |
right mirror for a 1977 911S
Sorry for not posting the year.
|
I added a RH mirror to my '77 and am happy with the results. I planned to hook up the motorized adjuster but have never needed to adjust it and it's just a pain to run new wires through the door jam. In addition, most of the RH mirrors you find are from SC's and have newer internal designs so the wiring is not compatible with our years.
I have a red RH mirror left over from the project. Will definitely need to be repainted but if you're interested, PM me. Any other questions, just ask. Ron |
there is a wiring harness that replaces the single mirror harness with one to operate both mirroes.
I will post the harness number later, I have an old one in my wiring stash. LM |
Template for flag mirrors mounting holes......
rpmoore2,
If you'll ever need the template for mounting the passenger side mirror, send me a PM and will forward a copy of the instruction. Tony |
boyt911sc this template maybe something that should be posted on tec forums very valuable to this RH flag mirror instalation /

Here is a photo of the car with the LH mirror. I'm trying to confirm if this is an original 1977 911S mirror or did a previous owner install a later SC flag mirror style.http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1211810588.jpg

Oklahoma foreign should be able to get you the mirror and the harness. If you cant get the harness it is easy to make I can send you a diagram of my home made harness that has worked good for 20+ years

Heres a scan from 'Restoration Manual Porsche 911" by Porter and Morgan by Haynes .---Might help.
