Question Letters

I've been a lover of 911's since I was ten and I've heard many descriptions (SC = Super Carrera, T=touring) etc) of what the letters in the 911's stand for. So can anyone tell me the true meanings of the 911 L, T, E, S, & SC? I know there was also a 911 that didn't have a letter.

Thanks all,

Leo

Thanks Gents,

Have looked at two of these sites before and while they do explain the differences between the models, unless I am missing something which with me is quite possible, we still don't know precisely what the letter stands for?

So, "S" for Sport, "T" for touring, "SC" for standard car? "RS" for racing? "E"? "L"?

E = "einspritz" (German for "injection"). This car was mid way between the T and the S. Many feel that this modle was a great compromise in max performance vs everyday driving.

L = "Lux", in the early years when a true S was not allowed to be imported into the US, the L was substituted (all the S features except the engine)

SC = Super Carerra. In the time of the 365, the SC was the one to have.

In the time of the 911, the SC is the one to have! Also.

Thanks all,

As usual very helpful, but I'd take a mid to late 80's Carrera with the 3.2 over the SC's. No insults intended, it's just my preference.

Wow! I've never seen more misinformation in a single post.

I thought the S in SC was for "standard",..as well....( what was "super" about 'em?) Time for a reread of my Porsche books.... I can't keep up with it either......I remember it for a while, then quickly forget it all,..as I'm a loving user of a late model 3.2 Carrera,..nice and heavy...

Best,

oops,....my books show the 911S as "Super". (I stand corrected)

911E (Einspritzung is German for fuel injection)

911L L meant "Lux" (not sure what this means,..Sportomatic?)

Special lightweight 911S referred to as S/T

911T,..touring model

911R,..racing.

930S...slant.?...

I'm sure the pros (Steve) will chime in with corrections!!!!!!!!!!

Best,
