Another VW/911 Custom Eyesore

I don't want to be responsible for vomiting or suicides here but I ran across another one of those custom jobs. The kind that just needs a few finishing touches with a sledge hammer. Click with care.

Maybe it's me.

HE CREATED SOMETHING. And, it's not Batmobile-ish with 17 louvered vents, a 6-level wing, & so-on. I honestly think it's not bad looking either. Is it a track hound? Probably not. Authentic anything? no. But it's not billed as that either. It's a unique creation. I've seen FAR worse.

Hat's off to him for trying something. The last build I did was a Taurus for Pete's sake. A Vortech-boosted, Wilwood BSL-slowed, Custom Coil-Over'ed w/ 600 #-in springs for teeth-jarring tracking 500 crank-ponies Taurus, but still a Taurus.

His looks better than mine did.

I kind of like it, too. At least I appreciate the energy and effort that went into it.

At least it is not gaudy (is that spelled right)?

all true - but it's UGLY -- it does not have aesthetic proportions

I guess he can get a job working for Chris Bangle tho.

Only people who have themselves built a car should be allowed to criticize.

I know a lot of people who think 911s are among the silliest-looking cars ever built, so beauty is in the eye of the 'holder. And Bangle hasn't been fired yet and it's been what, ten years and counting?

Nature, beauty, and great art are all derivatives of the Divine proportion, the limit of the ratios of successive terms of the Fibonacci sequence (1.61803...)

The custom VW and Bangle's designs have neither.

Is this a new statute or just a court decision?

Well, having built one record-setting airplane myself and one track car, I know how easy it is to snort and laugh and criticize and how hard it is to actually set out to create something substantial, whether other people _think_ maybe they could have done better. Or not.

I would say it's more like having to walk the walk before you can talk the talk.

I, too, have built an airplane. It was not record setting.
(Unless there is a record for useless piles of crap.)

I like the Taurus above much better than that silver creation on Craigslist.

I don't think anyone is saying they could do better.

Simply that it is not attractive.

The real question to me is why do it at all.

Someone who hasn't built a car themselves can't criticize even a little bit?

My biggest gripe would be the seller calling it a 911 Speedster. I would respect the work done (or lack of work done) more if he called it what it is...

By the way Fred....I would drive that Ford on the track any day before i would even blink at that other thing.
