Several questions re: Blaupunkt Monterey
 
I opted for the original look for my 1982 SC and installed a used Monterey SQR-23 bought from a fellow Pelican but no manual of course. Here are some questions for you radio experts:
  1. I need to get an always hot power source to the radio so the memory will keep working when you turn the car off. What is the best place/way to get that to the radio?
  2. What does the little half moon looking button do? When you turn it on the Infinity symbol on the station number indicator goes off. And what does the Infinity symbol indicate?
  3. There's a three way slide toggle in the middle of the station selector. One stop is labeled Lo, one is Dx and one is m. What to they do?
  4. What does the button labeled PS do?
  5. When you push in the L/R balance, treble and bass buttons, they stay in, push them again and they stay out but I'm not clear what the function is. What does the radio do when you adjust it either on the in setting or the out setting?

I'd suggest you look for the factory wiring to get you constant hot source. Some remnants of it should still be there.

The button with the half moon symbol is the stereo/mono button. You have stereo when the infinity symbol is lit.

The three position slide controls the radio seek function. Dx is a more sensitive setting and will allow the radio to find weaker signals and lock onto them. The Lo setting ignores weaker signals. The m setting is for manual tuning. You can tune to any place on the dial with this, even between the numbered frequencies. When a little dot appears next to the frequency number, you are tuned to that frequency.

The PS button should really say CPS and is the button you puch to seek individual tracks on a cassette. Push the button, then use the fast forward and rewind buttons. Turn this off to fast forward or rewind the entire cassette.

The reason the bass, treble and balance buttons extend is to make it easier to grab them and twist. You can adjust these functions with the buttons in or out; it doesn't matter to the radio.

Thanks for your help guys. I feel like I can now enjoy the radio. I've noticed that even at the Lo setting this radio really picks up a lot of stations. Does Blaupunkt focus on the receiver side of the equation more than most makers?

I've had pretty good luck with reception using that radio. Back in 1983, I was living in Fayetteville Arkansas and had a new 911SC. One night, I parked it on a decent sized hill to see what stations I could get on the radio. I managed to get an FM station from Oklahoma City, which had to be in excess of 200 miles away.

Using the manual tuning function and tuning slightly off of the frequency center can sometimes be useful.

I just replaced the radio in my '82. The power wires come out of a bundle under the dash in about the middle (just behind the ashtray) and there are 2 wires in their own black tube. One is yellow and one is yellow with a red stripe, one of them is continous power and one is switched with the ignition. Don't remember which was switched but I tested with a 12V light bulb and figured it out. Maybe you still have the wires hiding under the dash.

The yellow with red stripe was the right one for always hot. Thanks again.
