Doing a rebuild of 73 911T half shafts

How do I get the ends off of the shaft?

Not looking for opinions-only people who have actual experience(and grease under their finger nails)

there is more in this post than you need but you'll see a "c" clip on the end of the shaft in a couple of the pictures. You'll need a C cllip pliers to remove it. The shaft may need some help of a rubber mallet or brass hammer and piece of wood. do not use a regular hammer directly on the shaft. there you have it....

After the clip is off, I've used a brass drift to persuade it off. Be very careful not to hit anything other then the small inner race that is splined to the axle shaft. That is a good thread Steve referred you to, but on your car you should be able to unbolt the CV from both ends, and leave the stub axle in the hub. Here is the parts diagram

You can then clean and re-pack the grease on both ends.
