Distributor and year question

Hello all,
If anyone is technically inclined enough....
I just pulled my distributor and the number is 0231 169 003 which I found is used on a 1972 911T engine. Why would it be installed on my 1975 911 ROW engine? I understand it doesn't have as agressive advance curve as some 1973-1976 engines. Any harm involved in using it? I have a stock 2.7 1975 ROW engine which I have installed webers on but wanted to install Pertronix. Engine runs poorly at transition stage...lower rpm's but I think is more related to weber setup and really kicks in past the transition stage.

Thanks

Assuming that someone (previous owner) has changed distributors (why?...is the unknown variable) and you now have installed Carbs ...I would suggest you take/send the distributor to someone that can put it on a distributor machine and plot the advance curve.

That way you know exactly what you have to work with and if it may need 'tweaking' to fit your application.
