will a MSD igtion run better than a Perma-tune??

I have a 76' with 40mm Weber carbs, stock CIS pistons (for now) and I have the perma tune (blue box) the car runs great but I found a MSD 6al ignition box in a bunch of stuff I had storred and forgotten about. Will the MSD do any better than the Permatune unit??

Msd...........

The only way to really know is to give it a try. The wiring is pretty simple and you* can use male terminals on the MSD wires to plug it directly into the master plug. You should not have to make any permanent wiring changes. That said, I have an MSD 6A unit on my '80 SC coupe. It starts and idles well both from cold or hot and pulls strongly up to red line (and beyond sometimes). From what I have read, the MSD probably has a better reliability track record than the Permatune.* Let us know what you find out.Good luck!

Providing that the basic components: plugs, wires, cap/rotor are all in perfect condition, you use an MSD (high-vibration) coil and open the plug gaps to .040-.045, it will idle and run much better with the MSD 6AL.

The success or failure of an MSD is all about the quality of installation. Grounding is especially critical, as are power leads and connectors since these draw a lot of current at full chat.

Thanks guys, I'm pulling the engine and trans in a week or so to do a transmission rebuild. I think I'll put the MSD on and give it a try

The Perma-tune will work better only if the MSD unit is broken.
