Tranny case weights?
Hello,
When I get around to rebuilding my tranny: which case material is lighter, and is the lightweight case available for an 82 SC? Is there a significant life expectancy difference in the two cases? Also, how much weight does a limited slip differential add? Thanks Scott |

Excellence says
The magnesium case is lighter. So, any issues with survivability of the mag case?
Thanks Scott |

I am interested also. We know that the 901 trannies had problems with one of the plates that held some shafts, and there are upgrades to strengthen them. But I have never heard of a magnesium-case 915 having problems that the aluminum-case 915's didn't have.
Can anybody tell a story of weakness in magnesium-case 915's?

Shaun84taraga (SP?) has an interesting story on the weakness of a Mg cased trans. Find the thread from a couple days ago and look at the thing on the trailer.
