different rocker arms

So I adjusted my clakkety valves last night. This was the first time I did this on the car, as the noise was getting to me, and I knew it deserved the adjustment. To my surprise, I found two distinctly different types of rocker arms: one type was smooth where the "elephant foot" treads, and the other was ribbed. I can't remember the placement of each type, but it was not in an obvious organization. Does this mean someone has rebuilt it? I'm guessing yes, and should I be afraid? I'm also guessing yes The owner I bought the car from didn't even know that it was an ROW, or that it had oil tensioner upgrades, turbo bottom valve covers, pop-valve for CIS intake thingy, etc. Someone loved this car, but the PO I got it from knew nothing about this car. My main question is, what else should I be looking into in terms of "was it done correctly"? Sorry for the long post, and thanks in advance for any help.
JJ

Are you talking about this? The castings were a bit different over the years. I guess what you don't know will not hurt you as long as things check out, at least the things you can check without pulling the engine apart? Chances they got a set of rebuilt rockers and exchanged the originals then sometimes you end up with different rockers, not really a mismatch just a bit different casting.

Thanks Craig. Everything that I have looked at with the car has checked out okay so far. It just seems strange to have two different castings of rocker arms. If you bought a new or rebuilt set, would they not all be the same? Maybe I'm fretting over nothing.

They would not necessarily be all the same. Sometimes not all 12 cores you get in can be reconditioned so you take from another set to get a good 12 Most times, at least in my case when I recondition rockers the person sends me their rockers and wants the same ones back which they get.

Thanks Craig. And the pictures finally loaded on my comp, and yes that pic is exactly what I was talking about. Thanks again for clearing it up. I'm a bit worried still, but maybe that's just me.
