convert loop cooler to 28 row cooler- what mods needed?
 

As tyhe title says I am taking out my loop cooler in favor or installing the 28 row brass cooler.

I am just wondering what brackets are going to be required. I know this modificatio has been done many times. I am looking at how people made brackets for the cooler inside the front fender.

Do a search on cooler installation and you will find pictures to help, but in the meantime here's something to start with.

I did this exact mod to my 75 which had no cooler at all. Here's what I had to do:

First, I had to reposition the horns by modifying the bracket so they pointed downward and allowed room for the cooler. I don't know if you will need to do that on your 77.

Second, I made my own bracket for the back of the headlight bucket--a very simple "L" shaped bracket with a slot cut for the bolt on the cooler. I had to drill through the front of the bucket and bolted the bracket in after test-positioning the cooler by placing it in the fender well.

Third, I made a bottom bracket by bolting pieces of 1-1/2" wide angle iron into a "U" shape that could be bolted to the inside wheel well, and outside bumber bracket.

Sorry I don't have pictures, but my car is unavailable. Both brackets are sold on Pelican, but I think the bottom one has to be welded--something I didn't want to do. Anyway, do a search as I said and you should get a clear picture of how you can do it. It's not too difficult, just takes time and patience.

The used cooler I bought came complete with the lower bracket that had been cut from the donor car and the hoses that attached to my oil lines where my trombone cooler was originally attached. I had to make a small angle tab bracket for the top of the cooler that attached to the headlight bucket. Basically you have to relocate/modify the stock horn bracket, attach the cooler/hoses to your stock oil lines, then hold the cooler in a position that the hoses allow, then make/tack weld the brackets in place.
