1989 911 Cab - Passenger side power window dead...
Everything has been fine and then my passenger window won't work. Neither switch (driver / passenger side) does anything. The fuse is okay and drivers side works. Any thoughts before I go into the door. I assume it must be a dead motor. Thx Andrew

I'd say pull the driver's-side control switch for the passenger window and test it's switching output,...as the passenger side switch won't work without the driver's side passenger control working properly. either connections are flaky (checked while out) or the switch contacts are failing. I'd be sure to check this FIRST before dropping a door panel.......
...at least that was my recollection on my '89. I'll doublecheck my Bentley manual and any switch interchangeability for testing. Best, __________________

had the same problem - was just a loose connection. i believe my mechanic just wiggled his fingers in along where the door meets the fender and fixed it.

QUOTE] Andrew, This is a very sound and good advice. Use a test light to easily see and find out that power is going to the passenger switch (PS door panel). Then proceed downstream as needed to test window regulator (motor). Tony |

Okay. I pulled the drivers side switch and swapped with the passenger side switch (in the driver's side door). Cleaned contacts, etc. Still no go - drivers side works and passenger side does not. I think I hear a single click (not from the switch) at the start of each try. Is there a relay somewhere in the pass side footwell? I did not have time to fiddle with the passenger side door.
Anyway, at this point does anyone have any thoughts. |

Bentley shows a power window relay behind the dash gauges,.farthest to the left while sitting in your driver's seat.......behind the gauge
You can (also) see the relay if you were to open the bonnet, look up where the gauges are...then to your far right..this would be looking from behind the gauges (obviously)....this may be the relay you're hearing? check for 12 volts to fuse 1, on fuse panel #3...a 25 amp fuse (both sides). Have you voltage on both sides of the fuse when actuating the switch? The Bentley prints show a "power window control unit" that pulls in contacts...I assume this to be the relay mentioned above? Hope I'm reading this correctly....is this the damned convenience relay? At least you know it's not the switch(es) now....of course you can measure the voltage through the power window switch to be sure it's there...(R/White at pin 3 of passenger side switch).. I don't see where the window switches fire a relay Others will chime shortly, for sure. Maybe check that relay first,...sure hope the motor hasn't gone south on you...we just need to check a few things before tearing the panel out.. Best, Doyle

Some have had wire issues within the door harness (up by the upper door hing,..right where it flexes the looms.....you may want to eyeball that, as well...if the voltage is leaving the driver side switch that controls the passenger window, but NOT arriving at the passenger side switch, then I'd check the wiring integrity (also)..

Interesting that you mention fuse 1. It just ocurred to me that that fuse 1 has been randomly blowing out (not regularly but often enough) in the trunk fuse box. I am not sure which fuse panel # it is. I believe it is a white (25 amp fuse). I have never been able to figure it out. No pattern to it.
