Alright, yellow fogs!
Ok so today marks the first day I have actually started "personalizing" my 911 after acquiring it about a month ago. On virtually all my German toy vehicles I add the yellow lighting somewhere. On my 2002, I actually did it on my headlights. On the 911, its going more subtle since the car is already very yellow. I just want to let you guys know how I do it since it seems a lot of people use the tint. I never had good luck with the tint ( seemed to not lay 100% and always a hair off with the color I want)
So...I use Krylon stained glass window paint. The lid looks orange but the can says yellow. You can buy it an the bigger hobby and craft stores for about 7 bucks. As seen here: ![]() Anyway a pic of my old 02 and then before and after on the 911 fogs. ![]() Before: ![]() After: ![]() Well its just exciting to start turning this car into what I want it to be. Not too much (autopower roll bar, new dash cap, tidy some things up) and then just keep enjoying it like I have been.

I like the look. Would have never thought of using stained glass paint. Nice job!

My friend sent me a pic of that 2002 shot the other day!
Question - does the paint melt, distort, peel, fade, etc from the heat of the lamps? I can never find that stuff at my local OSH. |

No the paint doesn't get affected by the heat. The lights on my 02 have been like that for over 2 years and are still looking good.

i did this on one of my bmw's; i like the look. the fogs are actually French market ones with yellow reflectors and clear glass, while the headlamps were done with a 3M film like clear bra available here: http://www.stickercity.com/store/home.php

hey what do the laws say about running yellow lenses on your regular headlights? reason why i ask is we didnt have answer this past weekend at calif mtr speedway and due to one of our group crashing her car hard we had to use trailer for wreck and drive turbo back to phx. with yellow lenses.
long story short we left early enough to avoid night driving. |

Light output is not effected however the legal issues of having them on your driving lights is iffy. They are not legal as I got a $75 ticket in my Infiniti a few years back however cops loved the 02 and never looked twice except to waive or start a conversation.

In California it is (or was) legal and I used to carry the piece of paper with the DMV vehicle code on it in the glovebox of the BMW for when I got pulled over. Police were never very friendly about it though I got off twice. Third time, I got a fix-it ticket though.
I poked around on the DMV site just now and couldn't find the code which means either that I'm not as good at operating the internet as I used to be, or that they changed the law. It stated very clearly that "forward facing lamps shall emit light on the white to yellow spectrum" or something to that effect.

I did it before. The paint will fade after a while. If you spray a layer of clear coat, it'll last a lot longer.

yeah we were wondering about calif and az with a freeking black/orange fire breathing turbo race car with numbers, drivers seat only, caged, blah blah with yellow lights at night.
thats when corp decision time arrived to leave early and avoid hassles with 4 p-cars and a beemer traveling in convoy. i'll check az dmv about lights also. see lots of truckers always running their yellow fogs here despite having fog about as much as the sun coming up in the west. |

Again, after years of having it on my driving lights on a former DD, nothing happened. Maybe you used another brand of paint perhaps.

If you are using the model car stuff from Tamiya it may fade but the Krylon with good coatings will last and last.

Yeah no problem. If I had a black (or any other contrasting color)911 I'd do the headlights but it'd look pretty nuts on a yellow car. It was the first thing I did on my 2002 back in the day too. Cheap and makes a big difference.
Next is the cage if I can find one for the targa on here.
