DME location on 1990 911 how do I replace the DME relay on a 1990 911 targa 2 ? is it located under the drivers seat ? if so, how do i get to it ? do you have to remove the seat or just move it forward or back with the electric seat button. thanks |

It's in the fuse panel under the front hood. Should be marked dme. |

thank you. I had a look and DME didn't stand out but I will take another look. Appreciate the help |

thank you is it common for the DME to become faulty and cause the car to cut out when driving and then difficult to start and idle ? its been running perfectly for months until recently. I have ordered a new fuel filter and DME to try these first before looking at the fuel pump and other things. Any help would be well appreciated. |

Yes, the first thing is try a nwe DME relay. When they are bad they don't necessarily die, they're faulty. The relay is in the Fuse box (your user manual should indicate the exact position) |

aussiehussy. Note that Oracle said replace the dme RELAY not the dme. Try the RELAY first. Under pass seat. My 0.02 Oops, just read your first post again. You are heading in the right direction. |

Cutting out Thanks - I replaced the DME relay (under hood in fuse box) and the car (1990 - 911) and it appeared to start and run fine, then the next morning it started but died shortly afterwards. It appears that its either starving for fuel when it cuts out or the rotor under the dist cap is arking ! I will pull the cap off and check the rotor and inside cap because I could hear what seemed like cross firing - ever heard of this happening ? I have a new fuel filter which I will change too - and will order a new fuel pump because I cant hear the pump kick in when i turn the key. Confused - any thoughts would be appreciated ? One more thing - when I can get it to idle it runs for a minute or so then the idling seems to surge from low to high (1,000 rpm) and then dies. A week before and it ran like a dream.... |
