fuel pump question
I have a 79 3.0 and the fuel pump runs loudly and seems to run at max rpms all the time the engine is running... engine runs good cold or at operating temp but that fuel pump doesnt slow down till you shut the engine off... on my 77s the fuel pump seems to be quieter or is doesnt pump at max rpms all the time...
I repalaced the check valve with a known good one Same with the fuel accumulator and fuel filter.. Is the fuel pump just getting old and loud or is there someting more here... Thnaks in advance of any input Tony

Fuel pump......
Tony,
The electric fuel pump in your car runs at constant and uniform speed (RPM). As they get older, they tend to produce louder noise while running. As long as the pump is capable of delivering the desired fuel pressure (65 - 75 psi), considered it good or usable. Start to worry when the fuel delivery pressure starts to deteriorate. At this point, I would suggest that having a spare fuel pump as back up is a prudent course of action. OEM fuel pumps don't last forever. Tony |
