I am from Germany and looks for a good shaped Porsche 911er Targa from 85 up.
I saw for a few weeks by a dealer "Nort Northam Collection" in Winter Park, FL 32789, in a white gold color 85er Porsche 911 Targa. I have big interest at the car. Who lives near the dealer and could make a view at the car for me. I had ordered a carfax inspection report. The inspector means in his report, that the car seems in a good condition, but have many smaller problems, like some stone steps, scratches and Dings and at a small place under the drivers side window a bad painting. Inside some broken parts at the right seat and the rear seat. Also the sunroof is not really perfect, maybe during the rubbers and seals. The inspector also said, that the car has some oil stains under hood on the left side near distributor cap. But I donīt know how bad is it really. The inspector gives no informations about the condition of the exhaust system and the heat exchanger, he only means they are o.K. . And if at the underside is anything rust or not is not reviewed. The brake lights are out of function (?) and the odometer too. This are safety things, who could repaired from the dealer. I have big interest at the car, but for this price (round about 15.000,--$) I want that the dealer must repair some things before I could buy the car. So I also need informations, what cost the bad est things to repair. I would be very happy if everyone could help me for my decision to buy or not to buy my youth dream. Thanks Matthias from Germany |

I suggest you pay for a PPI as 'insurance' against hidden damage....in Winter Park Gary Stratton comes to mind...email him for rates...

I can answer any questions you have, I own this car. I bought a Boxster S from Nort and that is why the Targa is for sale. All the service records for the car are in the trunk. I purchased it in January of 07. I had a full service and valve adjustment done shortly after I purchased it at Redbone in Orlando, They also rebuilt the alternator. In June I had the clutch replaced by Zotz, they also replaced the crank sensors. The exhaust is in good shape, the muffler is an M&k stainless and everything else is stock. The engine has never leaked oil since I've owned it. The odometer does not work, quit about 2 months ago, The seats have been recovered in vinyl by a previous owner, I replaced the stereo, 930 steering wheel, momo shift knob and boot. The dash is cracked and has a cover over it. I also replaced the headlights and taillights and new floormats and mat on the backseats. The rear seats are in good shape, just the little straps that hold them upright are broken. The knob on the passenger seat must have fell off. Heat works, air blows cool, needs to be charged. The Targa top gas been recovered by a previous owner. The car was purchased new from Porsche of Orlando and I am the 4th owner. The second owner owned the car the longest and kept very good records, which are in a binder in the trunk, The original steering wheel and sugar scoop headlights are also in the trunk. The car has only stranded me once, shortly after I purchased it the DME relay died. It was replaced and a spare is in the glovebox. The brake lights worked last month, I replaced one bulb and both fog light bulbs recently. The paint looks good for it's age, but it is not perfect. The front bumper and the mirrors were repainted by a previous owner. The front and rear valences both could use a repaint. The cloth cover on the rear targa seal is ripped but the rubber is fine.

I have heard of europeans taking US cars home with them, but I wonder how hard it is to get it licensed over there. I have some experience with taking cars to Japan and it is very expensive and a very cumbursome process to get a post 1973 car licensed in Japan. |

Even though they serviced the car Red Bone or Zotz would be good for PPI's both are very reputable shops in Orlando.

Yes, I would get a PPI before purchase, Zotz did a PPI on my Boxster before I bought it.
