Color Question: Meteor Grey Metallic '86 3.2
 

Hi all,

As you may have seen in a couple of my other posts, I just bought a really nice '86 Targa, which I think is a beautiful car.

According to the original sales order and the PO, the color is Meteor Grey Metallic. All my searching thus far has resulted in the idea that Meteor Grey Metallic was not a standard 911 color for '86. I have found data to support that this color was, in fact, a 928 color for that year. I cannot locate the paint code that I wrote down when I checked in the front boot, but I do know that the paint code sticker had a PN that started with 928 (I believe it was 928 701 167 03).

Any idea on where to find more information about this color, and/or if this was a 911 or 928 color (or both) in '86?

Meteor Grey was a standard color for '86 (and '85) according to Tony Corlett's book on the Porsche 911 3.2 Carrera.

Oh, and I forgot to add, nice 911!

Paint code for Meteor Grey in the Corlett book is shown as 961 Y5.

Thanks. I haven't gotten any books about these cars yet, but I will have to. I appreciate the info...and, yes, I remember the paint code being Y5.

Get the Haynes (911 and Detailing Book), both are cheap but Wayne's 101 Book is a Must and as well as the Bentley Guide.

May I also suggest a Binder to keep all the neat tech tips and tricks in one place.

I've become quite good at the binder thing with my other p-cars, so now I get to start a new one!
