Anybody know whether 944 seats fit in a 911?

Yep, they pretty much bolt right in for the years 1973-89 911's.

I think the later seat rails started in 1974. |

How does one retrofit newer rails to the older cars. I just bought some SC seats with rails for my 1971.

I bought my seat adapter plates from www.peparts.com. To allow me to use the '73 seat belts, I had them add an "ear" to each plate to give the seat belt ends somewhere to attach.
If you want to make your own, I found this template somewhere on Pelican Parts. Thanks to whoever make it and use at your own risk:
