Transaxle output shaft seals

In trying to hunt down the leaks in the racecar, I noticed the output shaft seals were pushed out and rubbing on the flanges. I installed a new set, but had the same thing happen after only one day out at the track. When I installed them, I did not push them in all the way, just made them flush with the housing. Do I need to seat them all the way down? Do I need to glue them in somehow? The lips are facing in. Any ideas or suggestion? Car is an '86 Carrera with a 915 trans.
Thanx,
Pete

Check for a plugged vent on top of transmission.
