Tire Help
Hi - I currently have 9x16 fuchs on the rear of my '86 911 with Bridgestone RE750's. Problem is they are worn out and need to be replaced - my fronts (same tires) are in GREAT shape. the 750's are discontinued and not available - the 760 isn't made in the 245/45/16 size that I need. I know you "should" try to keep your front and rear tires at least similar....... anyone have any suggestions?

A 911 should always having matching model front and rear tires. If not, things can get squirly in a hurry...
A quick search on Tire Rack and Discount Tire shows few choices in the 245/45/16 size. You could go back to stock sizes with a 225/50/16 in the rear and have plenty of choices. I just put a set of Bridgestone 760's on my '84 in the 205/55/16 and 225/50/16 sizes. A decent enough tire for the street. Jay 90 964 84 3.2 |

thanks Jay! Although I think I have the 9x16 fuchs on the rear - wouldn't the 225's be a bit narrow on those?

I checked the specs for the Bridgestone 760 in a 225-50 size. They fit on a 6" to 8" rim. So yes, my suggestion of going to the 760 in the stock size might not work...
A very quick check of Toyo brand tires shows that they make a Proxis T1R that has the sizes that you need. |

tire choices are getting ridiculous. I had to switch down to the RE750s from the SO-3s last year. I think I'm going to go to one of the VR rated summer tires in 245 width, and I may switch to Yoko or Kumho, which is something that I never thought I'd do. Basically, I'm willing to sacrifice some wet weather performance before dry, and trying to find the tire with the highest heat/speed rating that I can find.
I also don't think that you can put a 225 tire on a 9" wheel. To me, the 245s are as narrow as you can go. You can go to 225s if you are willing to put a 7" wheel on the rear, and a 6" wheel on the front, but I'm not going to do that. |

I just put Hankook Ventus Rs2 Z212 - 205-55-16, and 245-45-16's on my car. I REALLY like this tire, and they look good too.
