Passenger window on 83 cab won't go down all the way

My new to me 83 Cab's passenger window sticks up about 1" at the front and won't go all the way down. I have the Bentley manual, Wayne's book and the Workshop manual that explain how to adjust the window stops, parallelism, etc. I have tried all of that and the window simply will not go down all the way. Does anyone have any suggestions or ideas? I have looked for binding, broken parts, etc and everything seems to be ok.

cheers,
Michael

Well, I struggled but finally got the regulator out. Cleaned it, regreased it, checked everything and it looks fine. Motor is fine. Window moves up and down manually fine (sliding it by hand in its track without the regulator. Noticed the bottom stop on the regulator is not adjustable. Reassembled (what at PIA that was) and tested. Still won't go down all the way. Looked up inside the door with lots of light now that I know how these things work and saw that the bottom stop was bottoming out. Removed it and the window goes down to exactly the correct position. Don't know what's up with that but I checked and double checked all of the other items for alignment and everything seems fine. I guess I will just document this in my log and leave the bottom stop off.

How did you unclip the electrical connector to the motor? My passenger side window won't move up or down (89 911 cab) so I removed the door panel to see if I could power the motor directly as switches seem fine. I can see the electrical connector ("L" shaped) but can't pull it off and am worried about breaking it if I try to hard. There appears to be no clip holding it down and I think I just pull straight up. Any suggestions?

ajmartin, I know what you mean! On my 83 Cab there are 2 wires with spade connectors arranged in an "L". Yours is likely the same. After looking at it carefully with a flashlight and mirror to make sure, I simply grabbed each wire and pulled straight away. They may be tight but should come off, they are straight forward spade connectors.

cheers,
Michael

Great! One more question - do you have to take out the regulator to get to the motor or can you remove the motor first. And what type of grease did you use on gears / rails once you put it all back in. TIA Andrew

You do not have to take the regulator out to remove the motor but you do have to unbolt it (6 bolts 4 up front and 2 towards the rear) to access the 3 motor mounting bolts. You have to take the motor off in the door in order to remove the regulator.

I used a white teflon grease after I removed all of the old dino grease.

cheers,
Michael
