Strange early 901 engine number

Has anyone EVER heard of a 901/38? I can't find anything in the books. There's more but I want to address this first. I think I saw a 901/10 listed, but nothing like this.

According to Bruce Anderson's book it's a US 914/6 case with manual transmission.
