Help with Keys

Hope someone here can answer a question for me. On a 1982 911 SC I have for parts, the PO misplaced the key. I'd like to be able to pull one of the other lock cylinders and have a locksmith cut a key for it. The question is, can I use the glovebox lock cylinder to enable a locksmith to cut a key that willl work in the ignition? Seems this is the easiest cylinder to remove.

Other ideas?

Thanks.

I don't know about cutting keys from a cylinder, but I can say that if the parts are all original the key is the same for the doors, ignition, and glove box. One key does all. The car came with two keys, one red and one black. There is a slight difference in the blanks so that the red one does not work on the glove box as it is the valet key.

Hope this helps.

I can say from experience that the glove box lock cylinder is not the easiest to get back in. The tricky part is that darn spring. It takes me less than a half hour to get the door handle out, but it took me a few months and several tries to get the glovebox lock put back together.

I believe the tumbler in the passenger door has the same tumblers as the ignition. Take the door handle to your lock shop and they should be able to make you a key.
