Anyone use an Aircraft Braided Line?

My crushed oil line has a sharp crease which will not be able to be removed with pressure and I don't trust leaving it alone.

Instead of spending $400 on a new line, has anyone replaced their oil line with aircraft braided hose and AN fittings?

Hi,

I have fixed the hard lines that have a crushed section , by cutting out the crushed section, and getting a section of copper tubing with a inside diameter the same as the hard line and slipping over the hard lines and silver soldering or brasing it to the hard lines , works great and it will only cost 10$ +- .

But to do it properly you need to remove hard line from car and clean the insided of tube so you get a good joint.

To be honest, I wouldn't trust a soldered copper joint. If it started leaking while driving, you would lose many quarts of oil before you realized it was leaking, and possibly get the oil slick on the tire (not good )

I was going to take the line off and do the heat/air pressure fix you mention. I did however first take off the door sill plate and moulding to better view the offending hose. There is a serious kinked edge on the crushed part. Past experience with metal tells me that it will not come out and may just crack open when pressure/heat is applied.

There is no way to fix this one but to replace it. That will happen after the driving season, and the thought of the aircraft hose came to mind.

I used Russell 12AN hose. It worked out great. I used 90deg ends at the thermostat and straight at the cooler. I tweaked the rocker to allow a smooth turning radius and for a nice fit.

Getting the fittings apart can be difficult. The wrenches from Pelican are not up to the task (sorry!). Soak with PB Blaster for a couple of days then use a big adjustable.

I also fabricated some mounting brackets to support the thermostat.

I'd take some pics if my camera was working

The Russell fittings are very easy to assemble, cutting the hose is the tough part. I think PM sells pre-made hoses if that works for you.

I'm using AN lines on my race car, not in stock location, but I can say the lines work well.
