Restore stock seats or get GTS Monte Carlos? Cost of seat resto?

Putting the cart before the horse on this one, but I'm working from home today and slacking a bit, seeing all the nice seats over on the earlySregistry...

My stock brown/tan non sport 71 front seats need some help. The upholstery is not in terrible shape save for a few seam tears in the basketweave, but the seat bottom cushions are shot and the 'bolsters' are fairly mushy as well.

I was leaning towards having the seats restored with new cushions and try to save the orig material where possible, especially since the PEP retracting seatbelts use the stock receptacle mounting location on the seats, but it looks like GTS monte carlos are a pretty good deal if you go with leatherette.

What does seat resto work generally cost? From a preservation standpoint, it seems like that would be the way to go. Of course, I could always get the GTS seats and later restore the stock ones...

What would you do?

Dan,

Great question. I'm mulling over the same choice for my '77 Targa. The stock seats were recently reupholstered (by PO) in tan, but I'm planning to change the interior from cork to black/gray and I don't know whether to re-skin the stock seats again or go with the Monte Carlos in leatherette/corduroy.

I'm hoping someone who has bought the Monte's will post here with their comments....

I have a set of these in Leather and Corduroy I bought for my car when it was intended for street use. I have never installed them and am going with race seats now. I will sell them for $1450.00 including+ shipping( within NA) , includes seat mounts and sliders.

Mounts are for early cars so they should work with yours.

Note these are not marked as from GTS, but from whatever their name was when the seats were being made in Italy. I can look for that if you care.
