Project Cabriolet Moving Forward
 

I'm close in getting project 1983 911sc cabriolet back on the road. First off, I'm close to buttoning up the engine (need to add the remaining CIS gear, exhaust system, fit tensioner guards, add the chain housing covers and other miscellaneous engine stuff. Here's where I'm at with that:

While finishing up engine stuff, I've been cleaning and prepping the engine bay, including fitting a new sound pad (wow, what a dresser-upper!), replacing the engine bay lid shock, re-installing the cruise control servo, replacing the fuel filter and cleaning up some wiring.

Meanwhile, in the interior, I've got the console carpet section and the console re-installed. I pulled the console for two reasons -- it was filthy and the top of the standard Porsche shift knob had gone missing. I removed the shifter and using a spare I bought from a fellow Pelican, I replaced the shift arm and knob as a unit. All the other loose carpet sections have been shampooed and are ready to go back in. A recovered set of standard seats will complete the road-ready package. (The original stock sport seats will eventually be re-covered, too.)

At this point, I think I'm about two weekends away from buying plates and having the car inspected. Still lots of tasks and cleaning to do, but I'm making progress.

Looks Great, I Also Have An 83 Cab, Last One Was A 1959 Cab Wish I Still Had That One, Going To Do New Carpet Myself Next Mont, I Assume It Is Quite A Project, Though Small Compared To What You Have Done, Congratlations, I Have Only Had Mine 2 Months And Slowly Chipping Away At What Bothers Me, While Cleaning And Inspecting Things I Have A Stupid Question What The Heck Is The Box "wired" Under The Passanger Seat, I See It In Your Pic's Much Better Than I Do Peeking Under My Seat. Thanks And Hat's Off To Your Job.

Hey, Robert, thanks. There aren't many of us in the '83 cab club. ;)

The "box" under the passenger seat is the Bosch K-Jetronic, or lambda, brain, and the oxygen sensor relay.

You've got that right, but I'm feeling really good considering what I started with -- a dirty, smoking, barely running car that suffered from ownership inattention and neglect. But underneath all that neglect and abuse, there was a decent, well-sorted cabriolet waiting to emerge. It just needed to fall into the right kind of owner's hands (mine). :)

I've got some cosmetic issues that I'll probably begin addressing later this fall or over the winter. The plan now is to get it on the road and get some miles on it. Next year, I'll also revive the A/C. I have working air conditioning on my targa and it's terrific for road trips.

Still, I've sorted a lot of stuff since I got the car last fall.

Unless you're stuck in traffic....A/C on a Cab isn't needed much. I tossed mine.

Went back in last evening and found still more areas in the engine bay to clean up. With the car on the lift, I'm at a comfortable height to stand inside the engine bay area and clean, clean, clean.
