Pop out windows will not shut....

75 911s...replaced the pop out quarter window seals, now the window will not shut. Seal is from our host.

It shuts OK without the chrome lower trim.

Anyone have this problem after replacing the seal? What did you do?

I love the car and the challanges, but darn it I have had enough of this challange!

Thanks for the help guys.

Hi Mike,
I also have a '75. Also had the same problem. I made a soapy solution and sprayed the rubber and was able to get the window to close. Left the window closed for a day to let the new seal compress into shape. Opened the window and still couldn't get it to close. So I sprayed it again and did the process all over. This time let it stand for a few days. The window will open and close without the spray but it is very tight. I'm guesssing over time the rubber will conform to the right shape but at least it is closing. Be patient.

Thank god somebody else had/has this problem... I could not even push/force the window shut so I ended up trimming the damn seal.

I would try what mike did if you can get the window closed and also make sure you got the seal properly in the window frame... you can use the soapy water solution for that to.

I retrofitted pop-outs to my 78 and they fit great with the old seals. Of course I had to fix that. I replaced the seals and had the same problems you all are describing. After several iterations and careful trimming with a razor blade, they fit. But the fit is not great and they are not water tight. What a pain. I am convinced in talking with others that the replacement seals are much larger than the originals were.

The windows have a little adjustment to them in the up/down direction. Try loosening the four bolts that hold the window in place and lifting up (typically I have to pull them up YMMV). The suggestion about the lube is a very good one also.
