need help sorting out my vaccume lines

I just bought a 1979 911sc. It has a surging idle. When it is reved up it runs great, but when the idle dips down it start poping through the pop off valve. I replaced the plugs, wires, rotor, cap and fuel filter with no luck. I decided to look for vaccume leaks.
I found this (Thermo valve see first pic) The vac diagram shows that the extra port should have a line going to the control pressure regulator. I think I found the CPR, but it has a vac line that runs to a "T" and spits off into another "T". I cant find any vac lines that would have gone to the open port on the Thermo valve. Does anyone have any pics of their vac line set-up? Mine is different to how the diagram is showing.

I found a great diagram

Is #54 the control pressure regulator?
Is #17A the thermo valve I have in the first pic?

Is there a diagram on the underside of the engine cover?

From your bottom photo of the control pressure regulator, I cannot see clearly the vacuum hose that should be attached--it would be on a nipple at the base of the regulator, on the far left end (under the black hose and red wire in the photo). If there is no nipple there, it's possible you don't have the proper regulator. It's not unusual for the regulator to have been replaced, but if my memory is correct yours should have the vacuum connection. See if you can get the Bosch number off the top and post it here for a definitive answer.

I didnt see a part number on it, but it does have a vac line on the base that runs to the center connection on the thermo valve. It is the same line in the first pic. The diagram looks like it should be going to the other port on the thermo valve.

The diagram shows 2 vac ports on beside each onther on the side of the Throttle body, but I only see one on mine. ??
