Help with pic of TB from 3.2
Does anyone have a close-up picture of the throttle-body vane from a 3.2? Mine appears to have a small slit in it on one side, I could convince myself that this is supposed to be there but it also appears that it could be damage.
I am troubleshooting a slightly high-idle problem that has been going on for quite a while and this little slit on the edge of the vane would let quite a bit of air bypass the system. |
I'm at work, but I have an AFM sitting on a shelf at home that I can snap a pic of this afternoon. I'll check the thread when I get home around 3:30.

thanks for the reply's. I wish I would have taken a picture of mine while it was off the car. I am hoping for a picture looking straight down at the vane with it closed. The bit I am talking about is right around the edge of the vane on the side with the throttle cable connection. It is a very smooth slit that starts at the center pivot pin and goes about a 1/4 of the way around the edge of the vane, getting evenly larger until its stops with a smooth edge.
It is a very clean slit so it could have been manufactured this way but I cannot imagine why anyone would engineer a TB this way as thats what the bypass screw is for. |

Sorry Steve, I didnt answer your questions. It is the throttle body vane I am referring too. In your original picuture the vane would be closed looking straight down into the throttle body and I have placed a square around the area where the slit is in mine in the picture below.

Are you certain it is a slit, and not just scoring from the edge of the butterfly? A slit would definitely introduce unmetered air. Try filling it with JB Weld and smooth it out. See if your idle problem goes away.

It is possible it is scoring, it is on the edge of the butterfly, not the housing. It is an extremely clean area though so it almost appears that it was designed that way, however, being aluminum it would probably have borken fairly clean anyways.

Replacing the entire throttle body is proving to be rather expensive and I believe I will have a hard finding someone to gut theirs and sell me just the butterfly plate.
I am thinking about trying to repair this with JBweld. Should I be concerned about it breaking off and being sucked into the engine? I do not have a lot of experience with JBweld and am not sure how likely this would be to occur? I know that i could easily apply and sand it to the shape to fill the slit. |
