Strange 915 Issue....Asking for Thoughts

Once in a while when shifting from 1st to 2nd, the shifter is kind of reluctant to come out of 1st, When I pull firmer, it will come out of 1st and make kind of like a click or snap sound that sound like plastic not metal. It goes to neutral and right into 2nd with no problem after the click.

Most times it shifts fine and a number of years ago the PO had the 2nd syncro done. In any case, it is not an issue of going into 2nd which it does smoothly, it is an issue of the shifter not wanting to come out of first.

It definitely does not sound like the sound is coming from the tranny, it is more like it is coming from the shifter.

Thoughts?

How is it going in to first? My first thought was some sort of binding in the 1st gear syncro, not allowing it to compress, but if it goes in easy that's not the case.

You might try disconnecting the shift coupler from the shift-shaft and manipulating 1 thru 2 by hand and see if you notice it. THen work the shifter disconnected from the trans and see if you can isolate it.

Sorry, should have mentioned that. No problem at all going into 1st.

I will also try the disconnect test, but it is not doing it all the time.
