'82 3.0 CIS Question
Can an '82 3.0 CIS fuel system be run without the oxygen sensor and brain. Engine is going in my '70 914 conversion and I would prefer not to put a bung in my exhaust system.
If it won't run without the sensor hooked up, can I use the CIS system off a 2.7 or do I need to obtain an earlier 3.0 system. Thanks ..... |
My 80 engine has no sensor or brain, so I think you can run your 83 like that, unless you have to pass an emissions test. You may want to go w/ a 78 or 9 WUR w/ vacuum to give you extra enrichment @ WOT.
I think you will get the best results from a 3.0 system, but a 2.7 may be doable. Others may have more specific info on this. |
If you disconnect the narrowband Lambda sensor the lambda brain tells the frequency valve to go it's default setting. Not sure what happens if there is no lambda brain. Prolly goes full open or full closed, neither of which is good.
If you have the brain install it without the O2 sensor. Then just use your 3mm hex key to set the CO where you want it and leave it. Not much different except it won't make subtle changes for you. |
You will want the lambda brain hooked up. Unless you want to switch out the fuel distributor and frequency valve setup. ($$) Most of us unhook the O2 sensor anyway, so it isn't a big deal, but without the brain working, it drives like 'it is dragging an anchor.'

Thanks very much guys .... The 3.0 is new territory to me. I have a fuel distributor off a 3.0 Euro or I can come up with the brain. Just wanted to make sure before I toss more dead Presidents.
Hi Sammy - you're still alive in the OC huh? Glenn & I miss the flops and Hawaiian shirts. Ron |
