HID headlights from GoingSuperFast.com

Has anyone used the HID headlight kit from GoingSuperFast.com? They are located at the bottom of this page:

http://www.goingsuperfast.com/Accessories.html

If you do have them, do they work well? How was the installation? How long have you had them? Any pics??

Thank you!

What are they using for a lens? You need a projector system to make HID's work properly - would look lousy if you just swapped bulbs in an H4 or H5 lens...

I used aftermarket HID's in my 993 and they were fantastic, but 993 was the first 911 with projector system...

I contacted Albert at Going Super Fast. He informed me that you'd lose your high beams with the kit and that you do use the stock headlight lens. Supposedly, there is no need for an additional projector system. According to him, the HID's are so bright that you won't miss your high beams...

With no high beams they will not pass a safety inspection.

I agree that highbeams are not needed for brightness with HID, but they are handy for "flash to pass" and inspections.

My issue is still that HID bulbs were never designed to work with the old-style reflectors of H4's for instance. I've heard that the scattered dispersion pattern doesn't suit HID's well at all. I'd have to see it working at night before I'd be a convert...

I tried one of these kits. Not on my 911, but on my 97 Audi with scattered dispersion lens type headlights. The people I bought them from told me that it would work great, and was far superior to my existing halogen bulbs. It was awful. It WAS much brighter, but the light was very muddy and distracting to oncoming traffic. I was flashed by oncoming drivers frequently. I took them out, and put the normal bulbs back in. My new Audi has projectors with factory HIDs, and their is a huge difference in beam pattern and cuttoff. Save some money, and get high wattage bulbs for your 911. My 911 with 100 watt bulbs puts out just as much, if not more light than my S4's factory HIDs. Just my opinion, but for the safety of oncoming traffic, I wouldn't do it.

Thanks for your impression - exactly what I feared. BTW, my 993 with aftermarket HID's (brighter than factory Lightronics) were incredibly bright (with just low beams) and perfectly focused with the stock projectors. Much better than even my 996 with factory Bi-Xenon (and WAY better than H4's with 100W bulbs).

If someone comes up with a cosmetically suitable projector lens for 911 (I saw someone used Mini Cooper lights that looked a little weird), then the upgrade would be worthwhile.

I've asked Albert for some pics. I'll post them if he replies.

something is srewy with his "explanation"

On a real HID setup - the main reason to use it is the extremely sharp cutoff of the beam - it allows the low beam to really light up the roadside WITHOUT blinding the oncoming traffic. But you are therefore NOT illuminating the far road -- and that is is exactly what MUST be lit up for higher speeds.

I had the real HIDs on my Boxster S and that is the way they worked.

I urge you to avoid these units and if you want HIDs - get some from a 993 and make them fit somehow.

You could get the Rally Hood lights and use them as your high beam...

I agree with the sentiment of your post, but making 993 lights work on a 911 is more than challenging (without changing the fenders for 993 units).
