Where to hook up a winch for a flatbed tow truck?
Reading another thread got me thinking. God forbid I need it
![]() I have a stock height `87 tow hooks underneath in the front but I wonder if the cable would destroy my chin spoiler. What about the back? Some of these tow truck guys have never gotten a "Porch" before.

Hopefully the tow driver will have a block of wood on board. When pulling a 911 up on a flatbed (rollback for those of you in the South), one can hook up to the arms and with the wood above the cables holding them off the lower parts of the car. Many 911s need additional ramps to transition onto the the bed. If the driver doesn't have the equipment, send him on his way politely explaining the difference between a damaging tow and a successful one. One doesn't need a high school diploma to get a job towing, so you have to make the call. It's your car, not his. Pulling one up from the back can even be worse on the front end.

When I ran a wrecker we would always keep a 4x4 on board. Hook up your tow hooks, put the 4x4 in between chain & frame and winch. Simple.
