The Iris was a great color but the opportunity provided itself to re-paint the car in its Factory Gulf Blue. My daughter thinks I am nuts but what does she know of responsibility to the Porsche Gods.

This a good shop and the technicians are incredibly enthusiastic. If you don't mind shipping your cars two hours I would highly recommend this shop. We left the trunk and engine compartment black. We did not totally disassemble.

Trader- Hopefully I will get it back next week; first week of June we could visit and you can check it out.

Thanks.

North to West Chester PA.

I got lucky w/ finding the shop. Timing was good. They had open time and they were interested in the car. They are highly professional and capable of dealing w/ older cars. They are also working on a 1973 BMW 2002 which was stripped to a tub.

I am hoping to get all the components together to complete the car by the middle of the month. I always seem to be a broken lens or a cracked speaker cover from completion.

Very frustrating especially with a great weekend coming up.

Gulf Blue Update: Sidebar CLK 63 Black

My friend John has a CLK Black. He won the right to purchase the car in a lottery. He took European Delivery which included driving school before the car was shipped State side. The car is still dressed in its racing attire. This car is Mercedes equivalent of a GT3 RS. Truly a sexy beast bred for racing with the right owner. Most of its miles have been track miles!

Here we come upon its big brother an E55. A little rallying.

A different type of brotherhood, not pelicans. Dad had two tots which restricted behavior into 100s.

John knows how to drive this car which was comforting! It has 500 horsies a pullin!

I first CLK63 I've ever seen in person was at Hershey this year - beautiful car. I can't imagine how powerful that car is... my little C is scary as it is, I can' t imagine having more power and less weight!

Who's doing your paint in WC?

Gulf Blue!

Wow, did I luck out. The body shop is amazing. They are completing the majority of my project. The goal is not a concour car. The goal is a well done hotrod with personality and lots of.........

This entailed the cleaning up the bodywork, adjusting gaps, mounting the replica cibie lights, and installing the interior.

The interior is being completed as a vintage correct lightweight RS. An early car dash was installed replacing the wrong SC dash. The speaker cover is cracked so a replacement was ordered from Stoddard $$$$. A double wrapped 400mm steering wheel is mounted.

All carpet and insulation was stripped from the car. The perlon carpet kit and rubber mats installed.

Authentic Recaro Sport seats are placed. Purchased off of the pelican parts board they were mechanically excellent with all the needed parts. The seats were re-upholstered in leather and houndstooth. They are absolutely perfect. Better pictures will be posted. I told my wife they are furniture to be moved from car to car like a couch from house to house.

The steering wheel, dash, and seats were all completed by Tony Garcia of Autobahn Interiors. I can not plug them enough. Experts! Tony made himself available to me and the technician on numerous occasions when installation questions arose.

The Mercedes deserves its own detailed thread. I guess the neat thing was the owner knew how to ride it hard.

The Shop is Brandywine Coachworks. The have assigned one tech to the car who is handling it front to back. The professionalism has made it a positive experience; subsistent individuals.

Not all of this adventure has been fun. I ended up painting the car because of an incident at the mechanical shop. I ended up changing the color back to original gulf blue due to the enthusiasm of the paint shop and this board.

It has been decision making on the fly. I can not emphasize enough the assistance I have received here....and the friends I have made.

Iris Blue is a great color but on an early car you can't beat the period correct colors. Smart choice going back to the original color.

Looks Great!!

pelican project car

The consensus; paint work looks good. I have been torn as to how I want to complete the exterior of the car. I am going to initially complete it with the fiberglass RS pieces that came on the car. I have an aluminum deck lid, aluminum license plate panel and a steel T front bumper. All I need are RS rear bumpers and I can change the look more R than RS.

The wheels, also purchased here, are RSR finished 16s, 7 & 9s. Hmmmm... finally a theme a total project purchased off pelican. This really is a pelican project car.

Now I have to get a pelican badge for it!
