Need help with two questions on 1973.5 911

I've got two questions about my 73.5T.

1. The car had Cibie driving lights installed in the horn rims. One of them was damaged, as was the old Cibie light. Where can I get new horn rims with the area pre-cut for the driving lights? Also, it looks like the Tango 40's are the closest thing to the original that is readily available. Is this correct?

2. The last time I drove me car I had some issues with heat coming into the cockpit near the rear seats. What's the most obvious place to look and to correct this issue? The heat exchangers are old and somewhat rusty.

Thanks,

I don't know if you want to spring for factory cut-out horn grilles as I believe they are rare and expensive. I have seen some used ones offered from time to time but mostly people buy a repro set of metal ones and cut the opening themselves. Others will confirm.

There have been several threads about lights also and I think the Tango are still available as an alternative to the originals. Again, try a search.

The heat you describe--is it radiating from the floor/seat area? If so, you probably got it right with the heat exchangers being leaky. How's the heat through the cabin ducts? Is it strong? Have you checked to see if the hoses from the exchangers to the flapper valves are attatched?

Hope this helps.

Thanks Ossiblue,

I didn't know if the horn rims were being re-popped by anyone. I've got an old set of chrome ones that are intact, but the car had a set of black plastic ones in place when the left one was damaged. Are the only ones that are available via Ebay or second-hand?

The Tangos can be had from Daniel Stern lighting and they look very close, and aren't cheap, but I want it to look right. I was just wondering if I was missing something.

On the heat issue, yes, it's radiating from the floor area. If I reach back and put my hand near the rear seats it almost feels like I have a vent back there. I was at the shop the other day where some repairs are being made and did notice that one of the hoses was loose. Assuming it was, can this cause the issue? I assumed that since the cabin is sealed that wouldn't be the case, but perhaps my assumption is incorrect.

I've included a photo of my 911 undergoing some repair work. I'm very much looking forward to having it back on the road again.

Thanks again,

ralittle2,

I am on the course of putting through the grille lights on my 73.5 also so I was especially interested in your post. I probably will go the Tang route too, along with some repro brackets (expensive) or maybe fab my own--others have posted how-to. Like you, I have an old set of chrome grilles I could mod but the ones on the car are black. Pretty simple to paint over, I figure.

The rear seats are almost directly over the connection of the exchangers to the flaps so that may be your issue--unless you actually feel warm air blowing. If that's the case (and it shouldn't be as the cabin is somewhat "sealed") then it may be coming in from the tunnel but that's a long shot. A good visual inspection of the underside and all connections/seals/hoses/ducts should determine how the heat is entering.

Looking forward to seeing pics of the complete car! Keep us posted.
