82SC CIS Rebuild with questions about hoses in wrong locations
I have pulled the CIS from my 82SC USA spec because I'm having a problem with detonation. After many of hours looking for answers and testing many things one thing was for sure the old rubber was porous and cracked and could be heard with carb cleaner changing engine note. During this process I have found a number of issues I would like to discuss.
1. I think the breather hose is backward not to mention kinked and cracking. The short hose was attached from the oil tank to the coupler (with a kink) and the long hose went from the coupler to the breather on the engine (with a kink). From part numbers I see short hose on engine breather and long on oil tank but wanted to confirm. 2. The vacuum lines on the front of t-body looked to be correct with top (80% broken and fell apart during removal) going to WUR and the lower going to retard port on distributor. 3. Moving to the vacuum lines on the rear of t-body I think things are backward. The top went to the distributor advance and the lower was blocked off. I'm under the impression the top goes to the deceleration valve and the bottom to the distributor advance. So far this is what I have found that has not looked correct and wanted to clarify during disassembly. My plan is to replace all bad rubber as well as injector sleeves and o-rings. I have been having fun with this so far during the first 4 months of ownership and can't wait to have it back together. First a partial drop to fix oil leak t-stat o-ring two weeks in and now CIS rebuild. I only wish I waited to do T-stat o-ring because now would have been the time LOL. |

Throttle body hoses
I am a newbie so take this as an opinion only.
I noticed the same setup when I had engine out. The top hose went to the distributor and the lower was blocked off. I haven,t gotten in their yet but arent the two hoses different sizes? I assumed from looking at all the charts that the lower hose would go to the decel valve. At the moment the decel valve has been disconnected by the PO and I was going to hook it up to see what all the fuss is about having it connected or not. Ive added a couple pictures. you can see the red plug on the bottom and if you look closely on top another red one, skinnier?, goes around to the front of th TB to the distributor. I plan on connecting the bottom plugged valve to the decel valve. I am hoping this is correct. I'm going to wait and see what others say now that Ive read your post. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1216690498.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1216690592.jpg |
Sailchef you are correct, I just went for a look and the two are different sizes, and it looks like the distributor port is the top one. I have spent ALL day searching for different things associated with CIS and came across a post that had listed vacuum hoses connections as in my first post. I'm starting to think my connections are correct with deceleration valve line removed and plugged.
