I was hoping if someone could help me determine if the engine is original to the car.

i'm looking at 1970 911T i don't have the vin number yet, but the engine number is

6105689 (type 911/08) is what the seller sent to me.

Thanks, also is there a book that i could buy or online website that i would be able to look up these things on my own. thanks again

According to the Porsche Red Book that is a US 1970 911T with a sportomatic tranny. Chassis number should be between 9110100001-9110102418

To find out the exact engine number and VIN combination as it left the factory, you would need to buy a Certificate of Authenticity from Porsche North America. (search COA). To get the info you just got from 'equality' you can buy yourself the Porsche Red Book at Amazon.com. Given the sporto trans information, you might ask the seller about what trans is in the car and if the answer is not sporto, then ask if the original trans is in a box somewhere and if it comes with the car.

Got this from another thread by Javadog. "Look on the bottom surface of the strengthening ribs on the bottom of the transmission, near where the clutch helper spring lives. You should see a pair of numbers. One will be in the format 915/xx and is the type number, the other will be a series of numbers and is the serial number."

For your 70, the trans #'s could begin with 911/xx or 915/xx. Check also the pattern of the gears. The 901 transmission's had Reverse in the upper left, 1st on the bottom left. On the 915, it is 1st in the upper left and reverse in the bottom right.
