new recovered wheel and silverknit mats
Hi All,
I found a solution to my poor fitting Lloyds mats - I sold them on ebay and got some replica OEM mats made by a prestige car interior restoration specialist, Kevin Ferguson, who owns Trimtec, in WA. I also got my steering wheel I have never been happy with recovered in black leather. here is the wheel: ![]() I could not find a leather to match the blue interior of my car. I purchased an AGLA kit but after going through two kits to get the right colour match, Kevin said the leather quality did not do the car justice. So, he ended up using a black leather he had. The grain is not 100% as per OEM (neither is the AGLA kit), but he did a lovely job. I also have a black 4-spoke wheel so used the horn pad off that. Now, the mats. I originally wanted some better-fitting overmats, but Kevin said that using overmats wears out the very expensive OEM silverknit. He recommended making some mats to match the OEM mats. We went for black silverknit, as the blue samples he had did not match my car. We also thought black would be OK as the car has a black lower dash section, and black detailing throughout the car. This is better than a blue that doesn't match. Here are the mats. I tell you, these are an exact copy of my OEM blue mats, but the construction and finish, particularly the leatherette edging is better than the original mats. The fit is also excellent. I am very happy with these: ![]() By the way, that wet-patch on the heel pad is where I wiped down the heel pad after driving today. You can also see my current black OEM wheel, the leather on the rim is a bit scratched and this will be replaced with the recovered black wheel. here is another pic of the mats: ![]() i think I have had a pretty good result with the mats. The pics don't do them justice. ![]() I was going to use jaguar black matting material, as the silverknit is very expensive. However, I decided in the end to retain the OEM material and I am very glad I did. I am also supremely appreciative of Kevin who managed to find some black silverknit in his workshop and offered this for the same same price as the jaguar mat. Fabulous service from someone who clearly loves his work. All up, for me a great day and I am very happy with the work done. I couldn't recommend Trimtec more highly for any Aussie pelicans looking to get work done. RG5. |

Looks fantastic. Really, really nice.
The blue pinstripe seats are cool. Thanks for the pics. I thought 'WA' meant Washington until I saw the pics... Western Australia???? BTW, it's SLIVERKNIT, not silverknit. It's a fabric type. Last edited by tcar; 07-26-2008 at 07:32 AM.. |

Thanks tcar for the kind comments. Yes WA is Western Australia.
OK Sliverknit. The pin-strip is original, I like it too. When I got the seats, they were nearly olive green. The pics dont really do them justice but they are a now a rich navy blue. It look me absolutely ages to get the 20 yrs of dirt out of them with carpet cleaner and a soft brush. The trimmer said that pintstripe material is probably not available now so. The drivers side seat bottom is wearing a bit thin, so this will become an issue in the future. The rear mats in my car - the previous owner cut them to install a roll cage in the car. HE CUT THE ORIGINAL SLIVERKNIT MATS!! He probably didn't realise how expensive they are to replace. Well, the trimmer is going to glue the backing and try restitching them from the back. Rg5 |
