Need to replace 911 1973 front bumper

Today I was out and about on the back roads of central Michigan, and a car chasing dog took after me. Sadly to say the dog lost. (I never want to hit another dog.) As far as I can tell, the only thing damaged on the car was the front bumper: the driver's side was displaced toward the front wheel to the point that it touched the tire. In the fifteen seconds that I continued to drive, the tire smoke and pulled to the left. I was able to coax the bumper away from the tire so that I could get home.

The bumper is probably twisted downwards on the left side, and it gave (bent) a little in the center of the bumper.

I'm guessing that the bumper is toast. The nearest Porsche body shop is 140 miles away to the south near Detroit, Michigan, so I don't think I'll truck the bumper down there any time soon. I'll try a local body shop or two, but I don't have much hope that it can be unbent.

There are a few places that sell aftermarket fiberglass Porsche spoiler bumpers for the 1969-73 911 body. Does any one have any recommendations or any thoughts on what to do now? I was impressed with how the bumper took the shock: it seemed to be designed to give way with out further damage to the body. Is a fiberglass bumper a safe thing to use, or should I track down steel?

TIA.

John.

So you hit the dog, continued to drive and only stopped because the tire was rubbing? I hope I read that wrong.

You should be able to get a steel bumper without a problem, but it will probably cost you about a grand if you want/need an S bumper and that is before painting.
