Chiffon White

My car being lowered and my driveway being dippy, I finally did some fatal damage to the front valence. I bought a new one from Parts Heaven and now I need to have it painted.

The local Maaco has the textury stuff that goes on under the paint, but they can't find my Chiffon White paint using the paint code. It's just not in any known system. Lots of other real Porsche colors in there, but nothing for Chiffon White.

Any tips? (I may just have to have them match)

My car is an early 1984 (stamped 10/83) 911 Carrera coupe in Chiffon White and chocolate brown interior. I've seen a couple other Carreras in the same paint, and quite a few SCs.

Thanks

Someone on here has PPG corresponding numbers. Should help.

Hopefully they'll post soon.

i have the same color combo as you. im not sure what your question is though. are you looking for the paint code? I think its 182 but will have to check when i get home from work. ive had several cans of it mixed using the paint code, once to repaint a replaced rear valence.

You have the paint code listed on the plate, it is "P2"

Thanks guys. Though the problem is not that I don't have the paint code. The code is staring me right in the face on that little plaque. The problem is that the code does not come up in the paint shop's system. At least that's what they've said. I'll make sure they're running "P2" and not some other number on there.

What are "PPG corresponding numbers?"

Thanks!

I don't have PPGs numbers, but I recently bought some Chiffon White from Paintscratch.com that matched well. You may be able to order from them, or see if they have some compatability codes. I seem to remember they had some on their site.

the shop must use a different paint manf. than the code on your car

OR - same manf. has switched numbering systems

start checking web sites; call P dealer; call paint manf. help line

That's what I've always thought. 182.

Paintscratch lists it a P2, though.

Strange.

The best bet would be to drop off another part from you car and have them color match to it. Maybe leave them the passenger side flag mirror, or the rear valience from around the muffler, this way they will match it to your color, as the car sits now.

Petrol said it best... when I had my new wing painted, I left them the old one so they could color match it, and it came out perfectly.

Well, I found the color on paintscratch.com, so I know someone makes it - that was a cool tip, thanks. But the Maaco shop won't purchase it from them. So I found another shop who seems like they can handle it. Hopefully this will work out.

Thanks guys!

Hugh,
Different people have different priorities with their cars. I've let a friend at Maaco quickly spray a few CF or FG body pieces going onto race cars, but I"m not sure I'd ever let Maaco touch something going on a car where I cared about the paint. The only paintwork I've done on my car I had ex Porsche PDI painters do and was happy to pay extra for it. If you really care about how it turns out... find a GOOD paint shop. It'll be worth it in the end. If you're not as concerned then maybe it isn't as important where it gets painted, but just keep that in mind as it will affect how the finished product looks on the car.

Since bourgeois found it, maybe he can tell you what book it's in and your guy can cross reference.

Or if you definitely want to use PPG, I suggest you contact a PPG distributor or contact PPG directly.

Actually I got that code from the Glasurit site http://www.glasurit.com/COLOR/new-color-online/m1frameset.php?language=1

PPG appears to have an online lookup for which you need an account to access. I tried to sign up for an account but I received no response.

Once you leave Maaco and find a real paint shop, I don't think the code is an issue. I had parts painted 182 Chiffon by a body shop 3 years ago and they printed out the code and gave to me when the job was completed. Paint matched perfectly.

That mixture code was above the visor of my truck until a month ago. I sold the 911 18 months ago, so I tossed the paper in the trash.

Anyway, any reputable paint shop could probably print your code for a couple bucks and you could take that to Maaco.

edit: nevermind

I was hoping you had some actual books from somebody. I looked in some old Glasurit chip books from 1983, 1984, and 1985 and don't see 182 or Chiffon White or chiffonweiss listed at all under the Porsche/VW/Audi sections for those years.
