A/C vent instead of radio delete?

This is either not a good idea or I am not putting in good search criteria.

At some point, I am going to add A/C in the '78. Most articles and comments note that the vents in this model are not that good for A/C in hot climates. Has anyone made a vent in the radio slot? Instead of putting in a radio delete face plate, I thought it would be a good place to put a new A/C vent.

Thoughts?

The concept behind Griffith's well-designed Kuehl Vent is to bring air out from under the dash into the passenger compartment. It seems to me that having a huge vent in place of the radio would be an interesting and effective way to do that. From my perspective, however, the trick will be finding a vent that fits the hole properly, without having to carve up your dash. Ideally you'd be able to find one vent with two sets of adjustments so you could have air blowing toward the passenger and the driver simultaneously. Two smaller vents mounted side-by-side would accomplish that as well.

I think it's a good idea -- one worth pursuing.

I thought I would probably end up finding something a little smaller than the radio area & just making a face plate, either leaving the small area around the vents black plastic or cover with thin black leather.

Thanks for the response, since my dash had a standard DIN radio installed / cut out, its possible there is a universal after market vent. Since most cars have the double DIN, when you switch to the single DIN radios that space has to be occupied.

Do a search.

Remove the bowtie under the dash; there's a vent there.

I made a duct (freee) and used a $10 vent from ebay, sits on top of the console - works really great. Guess you could run a duct from the bowtie vent to the radio hole but it's not in a great location for the driver.
