New sunroof seals - which adhesive?

I just got my new seals (front and rear) for my sunroof and was wondering what the best adhesive to use would be. The front looks straight forward but I'm not sure about how to do the rear, so if anyone has any tips on that I'd appreciate it.

Thanks,
Bryon

Byron,

I just finished doing the complete headliner, the sunroof panel, and seals. I
used DAP Weldwood Contact Cement. It works great, I bought about 10
solder flux brushes at the local hardware for $0.26 each and used those to
apply the contact cement. The solder brushes allow you better control of the
amount of cement you apply. Use Dupont 3109S Final Klean to preclean the
surfaces and for cleanup after.

Contact cement will melt the lacquer and A. enamel on my cars, must be very careful it stays only under seal.

Thanks for the reply Cole, this helps greatly.

How did you find the headliner installation? Any difficulties or things to be aware of? I have a guy coming Saturday to do a re-and-re on the windshield and thought I should be doing the headliner at the same time while it's out.

FYI,
The DAP I used was supposed to be safe for painted surfaces. I had areas
around the C pillars I wasn't happy with so I remove the cement reheated and
re glued at least twice. I had no issues with the cement harming the finish.
Headliner wasn't bad. Buy binder clips to hold it in place before using glue.
Take your time. Use a hair dryer to warm the liner before you strech and glue.
There is a great post with illistrations in the forum archives, Just do a search.

3M P/N08008 weather strip adhesive. You should be able to purchase it at any automotive store.

Thanks everyone. I picked up the 3M adhesive this morning. Can anyone tell me how to do the rear seal? What I mean is, does the sunroof have to come out and if so how do I get it out. I'm waiting for Wayne's book and I assume all this is in there but I'm itching to do this asap.

Wait for the book and make it easy on yourself. The sunroof needs to come out to do this and the book will make it much easier for you. I strongly urge you to get A Bentley manual as well.
Not a real hard job but don't start until you have guidance of some sort, personal or one of the books.
I suggest that you also get some adhesive remover, 3M brand, to clean off al the old adhesive.

I've used the 3M weatherstrip for a headliner and wasn't that impressed:
-It is stringy, so it drips everywhere.
-After shipping with DAS, the car arrived filthy and with the headliner hanging inside the car. I'm guessing it baked out in the desert and melted the headliner glue.

Sounds like a good idea. I have both books on order actually. I'm hoping one of them hits my door this week. Thanks for the good advice.

Bryon,
If you get me your E-mail address I'll send you a great step by step on installing the seals.

IMHO: Good luck with the 3M, That sh-- is hell to work with. It is stringy, difficult to use from the
tube, takes forever to tack up, gets all over everything, and difficult to clean up. Also God
help you if it dries on the show surface. The DAP tacks up in 10-15 min. and has a 2hr.
working time. If you need to restrech a spot you can warm it with the hair dryer and pull it
loose without tearing the liner. When its tacked up it bonds instantly.

3M

The secret to using it for me was to fit the seals and tape every few inches along the way with painters tape to hold them in place. Then work a section at a time. That way you can work with the 3M carefully and not make a mess. It was a piece of cake and came out perfect....

Yep, this is the key, you only get one shot at it, unless you want to start all over again.
