959 on eBay

Just in case you've got some loose change burning a hole in the old pocket. It looks pretty sweet

Nice car, but he's way off on the price. You can get one of these for less:

All that money and you slap a grateful dead sticker on the dash? This isn't your hash pipe dude, if you have to get stickerin', something like a "Paris-Dakar" would be the only thing even close to acceptable.

Here's one (albeit a non-US model) for under $300k:

http://www.finecars.cc/en/detail/car/21691/index.html?no_cache=1

I'd pay $275k for one, but not $750k, no matter what kind of mods it has. The guy is dreaming or looking for a sucker.

It's not a stock 959... it's a Canepa car.

Canepa does incredible work (complete tear-down) to basically make the car brand-new, but it is best to think of it like comparing an '87 911 to an '87 RUF CTR Yellowbird. Canepa does a ton of upgrades to the 959 in his campaign to "modernize" the car and make it emission legal with up-to-date electronics, less sophisticated suspension, etc... they are bloody fast.

People pay $600K for the Canepa cars.

Auction says 650k (reserve not met)...he's most likely asking much more. What does Canepa charge for a do-over? $500k?

650k and the shipping is not included?
jeez, for that kind of dough it should be personally delivered by hot twin redheads with champagne.

I've seen this car in person and spoken to the owner. It's a 959 that was non-S spec, then converted to S-spec, and then converted some more. The guy supposedly has a lot of money into it (put Bruce's kids through college?), and it's supposedly very, very fast. However, I prefer my cars close to stock, and for that kind of money, you can indeed buy a stock 959 and have enough money left over for a 997 GT2 which will blow the doors off of just about any car out there (probably this modified 959 too!). To each their own, the 959s have been selling from $300-$600K in Europe these days, so who knows?

Glad you asked. I'd buy a stock 959.

I toured Canepa's new Scotts Valley facility last year. Here's a shot of just some of the 595 that were there for anything from a tune-up to major mods. For the ones in for major work, each one had a parts rack labeled with the customer's name.

I am with Wayne on this, I too would prefer my car as stock as possible for
$650k, especially a 959 which has to be one of Porsches best engineering excercises.
It is a car you enjoy, lust, and pamper but IMO don't over personalize it with stickers on the dash or gauges drilled through the glove box door...

............................the track only! ................... with the distinct possibility(unless yer damn good) of wadding it up into beer can!

..............................or run paris to dakar or da baja! and trash it!

im sure any and all 50 states dept of public safety/highway patrol are dying for some clown to come hauling huevos down their stretch of highway in a 959 or some high zoot ferrari at mega mach warp speed and CONFISCATE IT FOR GOING OVER 85 MPH!

id have a massive coronary if i saw one of those emblazoned with az. dept. of public safety highway patrol emblems come whaling by me! hahahahahaha LOL!

you should see the az. dps yard that is filled with confiscated vehicles and boats. they get the boats becuz of drugs. they go out to the colorado river undercover in some fine fine fine super zoomy boats, let alone run deep undercover in a plethora of vehicles confiscated for excessive speed and or drugs/dui's etc.

miami mice(vice) in arizona.

I'll agree that Canepa probably does good work overall, but then I see details like the seats, seatbelts and roll cage and I have to wonder. Lot's of things wrong with that stuff. It's not rocket science; fifteen minutes on the internet will tell you everything you need to know. As he used to run 935 and 962 race cars, among many others, he and his crew ought to know better by now.

When Canepa upgrades a car, what happens to all the original part's that come off? Turbos, injectors, ECU...? Mods. don't bother me on a car that's being driven, as long as they're reversible.
