Removing A/C in SC

I want to remove just the compressor and the bracket in the engine compartment. My question is, can I just tie the hoses out of the way in case I want to re-install everything at a later date? Do they need to be capped at all?

You could remove it with no adverse affects to the car but no guarantees on the cooling system. I would highly recommend taking to a local shop and have the refrigerant evacuated as you are not supposed to release it into the air intentionally. Then when you remove the compressor cap the lines with the proper fittings. The fittings should be readily available too. Capping is necessary so that no moisture contaminates the system. Good Luck.

Get credit or sell your R12 to a shop when you evac the system.

If you reinstall you'll want to look into replacing the lines. They are notorious for leaking. It's a good idea to cap them though while not in use. If the system is already refitted with modern barrier hoses then yes by all means cap them well. The receiver drier in the system will go bad if you don't.

If your system was empty of freon then the receiver drier is probably bad anyway. Capping won't hurt.
