Help Identify DME chip
Guys - Upon purchasing my 3.2 motor, the PO believed that it had an aftermarket DME chip installed. I finally got around to popping open the DME box and here is what I found. Is this an aftermarket chip or a factory chip with the sticker missing? It looks like the letter "i" on the left which I would guess to mean intel, but not sure.

You are correct about the "i" - it's just the chip makers mark - intel

My original stock chip had (has) as plain silver label with a 10 digit number on it. Yours looks aftermarket, I just have no idea whos it is.
You might try to PM Steve Wong (here on this board - do a search for his name). He's probably the most knowledgeable I've ever seen write on this topic. |

No luck finding a sticker in the box (good idea to look though). I just sent a PM to Steve Wong asking him to take a peek. Maybe he can shed some light here. By the way, I bought one of Steve's chips for my previous car ('89 Carrera) and loved it. I'm looking to go that direction again, but I'd like to know what I'm starting with here.

I just looked at my stock chip and the OEM sticker is not centered. I can see the same markings yours. I'd put a piece of tape over the round window. I have a spare SW chip, but his label covers the whole top.

That is a 2732A EEPROM (4K Chip) but without the label you have NO clue what is on it.
Because the Porsche original label is missing, my guess is that someone burned a new chip and installed it. The only way to know what's on the chip would be to read the data off the chip and compare it to factory chips. You should really try to find out what that chip is or install a known stock chip. |

For example: pushing the timing to far advance (which is often done) could lead to fuel detonation and engine damage. You also have no idea what fuel octane rating the chip was created for. If you plan to stick with this chip I advise you to use 93 octane fuel to be safe. I agree with Steve 100% that you should consider going to a stock chip. I think Steve can burn you one for very cheap price. One last thing: put some tape over that window on the chip if you plan to leave it exposed to light. Once these UVProms are burned they should have the glass window covered up to prevent any light from getting in. Best of luck. |
